Enterprises are simply independent businesses that are linked to eekos, but still pursue our sustainable ideals.
They can be initiated by members and be fully owned by eekos, or an idea from others and eekos be a part owner.
They can be non profit projects that assist others and the environment, or can be very profit oriented to increase income to eekos and the members of the enterprise.
They have a sponsor agency and sponsor person who assists advising the enterprise as it grows.
Here are a number of enterprises that are forming and may take legal shape soon.
TROPICAL ECO HOUSES
Third world development is mainly based on support from the developed world. Unfortunately they have taken their high energy use designs into these countries. Equitable development is not possible with these designs and we explore the idea of designs that resond to the environment and the people using them.
We are actively promoting these type of houses in our Gambian agency where low cost, appealing and appropriate housing is sought by locals and tourists alike.
ECOMODULES
Small transportable living units that are self contained and utilise a number of sustainable technologies.
Mainly for use in developed countries for short term accomodation and additional space for offices and additional living space to existing house.
The focus at the moment is setting up in Australia, but the idea has world wide potential.
KEYLINE AND CARBON SEQUESTATION
The keyline system of plouhging and property maintenance is amazingly intuitive and progressive for medium and larger farms. We look into promoting its use and the possiblity of carbon trading schemes paying farmers to increase oranic matter (carbon) of their fields by the keyline approach.
NATURAL SWIMMING POOLS
Non chlorinated, natural swimming pools have lots of advantages over conventional swimming pools for both the user and the environment. Thousands have been installed in Europe, but very few in Uk, Australasia and Americas.
Eekos has helped to design and construct one in a Gambian ecoresort and this enterprise looks at consultancy and construction of the them around the world, principally starting in Australia, Uk and the Gambia.
ECO SURFBOARDS
Surfers consider themselves fairly green, but the equipment they use is not. Using toxic chemicals in manufacture and leaving a non biodegradeable landfill problem when finished with.
This enterprise explores the alternatives so that one day we may be able to use surfboards that we throw into the compost pile when finished with.
AQUAPONICS
Growing fish and using the fish poo to fertilise crops is a great idea and the potential is huge around the world.
By utilising the nutrients created by fish farming we can reduce the damage presently created by fish farming runoff and have higher yields all round.
COMPOSTING TOILETS FOR HOUSING DEVELOPMENTS
Composting toilets have been around for a while, but mainly used for isolated situations. They have enormous benefits that could be utlised within a housing development.
This enterprise investigages the case for promoting dry and semi-flush composting toilets for hosuing development companies.
SOLAR ICE MAKER
Using the sun to make ice in hot climates is an amazing way to reduce the fuel hungry ice making machines. This could be potentially useful for developing countries who want to keep fish and other produce fresh.
